Susan Finer

Lecturer

Acting Director of Teacher Education Program

Susan Finer was the principal of the Richmond Middle School in Hanover from 1985 until 2007. Over 22 years, she built a program that remains widely respected in the local community and which was twice recognized by the U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon Schools Program. She began her education career as a social studies teacher, has worked in both public and private schools as a teacher and administrator, and has been involved with schools in diverse settings - from Sierra Leone, West Africa, to New York City, to Island Pond, Vermont. This rich experience informs her work with mentor teachers, principals, and students in the Teacher Education Program, both in classes and at school sites. Susan was an early and enthusiastic supporter of the department's research-based approach to human development, learning, and teaching, and is excited to play an integral role in strengthening connections between research and educational practice for our students.
