Eglington, L. G., & Kang, S. H. K. (in press). Retrieval practice benefits deductive inference. Educational Psychology Review.
This study showed that practicing retrieval of information from memory (i.e., self-testing) can enhance one’s ability to later draw accurate deductive inferences from the information. The findings suggest that the benefits of retrieval practice extend to more complex, higher-order learning, and is not limited to rote memory.
